Silicon Valley Cardiology: Our History
The origin of Silicon Valley Cardiology
By 1984 Roger Winkle had become recognized as one of the early pioneers in the new field of cardiac electrophysiology, and had participated in the development and implementation of the first implantable defibrillator. He left a tenured position at Stanford to focus on patient care and bring that expertise to Sequoia Hospital, which was already known for its excellence in cardiac surgery and coronary angioplasty. Silicon Valley Cardiology began as Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiac Arrhythmias (CMCA) with Hardwin Mead joining Dr. Winkle that year after completing his cardiology training and Michael Ruder joining in mid 1985. Edward Anderson already had an established practice at Sequoia, and joined the group later as it expanded to include coronary interventional work. The resulting collaboration and growth has led to the emergence of Sequoia Hospital as one of the premier cardiovascular centers in California. After 26 years as CMCA, to reflect our association with the innovation in our area, the group changed its name in 2011 to Silicon Valley Cardiology. In January 2017, we merged with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Medical Group.
The philosophy of patient care at Silicon Valley Cardiology
You are our first priority. That sounds simple, but many practices and institutions say this and don’t deliver on that promise. All of our staff will do everything they can to expedite your care, answer your questions, and attend to your needs. Our physicians remain involved in all aspects of cardiology care, not just their focus area, so that your care is always complete. We also recognize the importance of your relationships with your other physicians, and will never compromise those.
Silicon Valley Cardiology and State of the Art Cardiovascular Care
In recent years, there have been dramatic changes in cardiology, and Silicon Valley Cardiology has remained on the forefront of these advances. From ICD’s to ablation for atrial fibrillation, biventricular pacing to drug coated stents, cardiac PET imaging to CT coronary angiography, our physicians have stepped up to master these new procedures, even participating in the development of some of these cutting edge techniques. You will always be provided the best that medical science can offer in a warm, friendly and courteous environment.
