Nellis A. Smith
Nellis has been a partner since 1989, and joined Silicon Valley Cardiology after completing a fellowship in Cardiology at Stanford in 1987. He was born and raised in Southern California, but his family eventually moved to Texas where he completed high school (Houston), a degree in liberal arts (UT Austin), and medical school (UTMB). His first fifteen years in practice emphasized hospital intensive care and cardiac arrhythmia management including device implantation and ablation. His activities have shifted recently to more general cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging.
He completed a sabbatical in cardiac MRI and CT in 2005, and has been the director of Cardiac CT at Sequoia Hospital for 3 years, where 250+ studies are performed each year. He is board certified in cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular CT. He has been active in clinical investigation for over 20 years, and currently holds advisory/investigator positions with companies involved in advanced ultrasound, CT imaging/treatment, and MRI compatible device development.
Nellis enjoys the challenge of adapting and mastering new technology to identify and solve patients’ problems, but no matter how fascinating and potentially useful the technology, believes that respect and kindness remain the real currency of life. Nellis enjoys music, “any sport that involves riding a board”, and spends as much time as possible with his 2 daughters, Amanda and Caroline.
